Liverpool loves a world premiere, and Pepperland launches our Sgt Pepper at 50 celebrations in style.
The ‘overture’ for our three-week festival is brought to the city in a very special commission by the Mark Morris Dance Group.
This captivating hour-long piece is performed to an original score from American composer Ethan Iverson, and inspired by songs from Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band including A Day in the Life and Within You Without You, along with the ebullient Penny Lane.
The music will be performed live by the MMDG Music Ensemble, a septet which includes voice, theremin, trombone, soprano sax and two keyboards.
New York-based, multi-award winning Mark Morris – described by the New York Times as “the most successful and influential choreographer alive” – has choreographed the piece, which is due to tour worldwide following its Liverpool premiere.
These four must-see performances at the Royal Court, the company’s only UK appearances this year, are guaranteed to delight both dance and Beatles fans alike.
